It may not be the first time you’ve ditched your weekend oil massage for something less tedious and something more glamorous (dry shampoo, anyone?). It’s a ritual that you put aside for when you’ve got hours to spare, a whole lot of patience, and ideally when there’s no one around. Right? Well, we’ve rounded up the reasons why that needn’t be the case. In fact, oiling is something you can do more often than you think you can!

Lets’ take you through the oiling cheat sheet which will help you up your hair care game in no time.

Excuse 1: “Oiling takes way too long”

Well. The oil does take a while to get absorbed into your scalp to work its magic.
But, did you know that half an hour is all you need? If done right, your oiling can be done in the length of an episode of your favourite TV show. Just make sure you warm the oil and apply it to your hair. This will speed up the absorption and deep condition the hair.

Excuse 2: “The oil makes my face oily”

Keeping your hair neatly tied and away from your face should do the trick. Also, make sure that you do not keep the oil in for too long, especially during those summer days. If this still doesn’t work, you could also use a shower cap or scarf wrapped around your tied hair.

Excuse 3: “The oil doesn’t wash off”

We’ve got to admit that this is one of the trickiest parts of oiling your hair. You end up washing your hair more than once, which tends to strip your hair of its natural oils as well. The way to around this, is to take the amount of shampoo you normally use and dilute it in a mug. Use the mixture to wash your hair as much as required. This way, the shampoo lathers far more and you get all of the oil out, while controlling the amount of shampoo you use.

Excuse 4: “Overnight oiling stains my pillows”

If you’re the sort who oils your hair at night and washes it off the next day, oily pillows are probably your biggest concern. The next time, cover up your pillow with an old t-shirt on the nights that you oil your hair. Keep it as a designated cover for every time you sleep with oiled hair. It even absorbs lesser moisture, giving you the best of your oiling regime.

Excuse 5: “Tying my hair with oil in it greases up my hair bands”

Here’s a not very well known fact: Using hair ties are not ideal as they are super tight and could cause breakage which weakens your hair shafts. Use plastic or wooden clips, or that 90’s favourite- the butterfly clip- that keeps your oily hair out of your face and can be washed while you wash your hair.
