The Bridal Beauty Massage

For flawless hair on your big day

By the Hairsutras Team

In the lead up to the wedding, it’s a good idea for the bride to get some downtime. Nobody wants their pre-wedding chaos to show through their hair (or skin). As the close friend or sibling of the bride, here’s where you come to the rescue.

Listen up, cousins, sisters or best friends of the bride! It’s time to indulge the bride in a few simple massage techniques that you can easily do at home, and save her that spa trip. It will also get you some much needed quality time with your girl before the wedding furor.

Our team of experts have dug up some massage techniques from Ayurveda along with the Swedish, Chinese and Shiatsu style. This fusion is designed to release toxins and give your hair a moisture balance, along with that healthy shine we promised earlier.

Getting the vibe right:

1. Choose a room she is comfortable in. Make sure the temperature is just right.
2. If scented candles or incense sticks are her thing, then sandalwood, rose or jasmine fragrances will do the trick. The scent of jasmine also keeps the pre-wedding jitters at bay.
3. Play relaxing, instrumental tunes that will help her unwind.
4. You can get her to wear loose, light clothing, and sit in a chair during the massage

The technique:

1. Before the massage

  • Use warm Parachute Advansed coconut oil
  • Perform the massage standing in front of the bride
  • Place both hands on the top of the bride’s head and request the bride to take three slow and deep breaths. Do the same.

2. Oiling:

  • Pour some coconut oil into your right palm.
  • Apply with circular movements on the head, while the left hand gently supports the head.
  • Then pour some more oil into your hands and apply to the neck, shoulders and both arms including hands.

3. Gentle hair strokes:

  • Perform gentle strokes through the hair on the entire scalp.  Start at the middle of the hairline and end at the back of the head.
  • Alternate the hands while stroking and end with a few strokes by both hands.

Duration of step 2 and 3: 2 minutes
Benefit: This helps relax the muscles and allows for blood circulation to your head.

4. Scalp Rub:

  • Use the right palm of the hand to rub the right side of the scalp, applying a light pressure.
  • Start in front of the ears and work your way to the top of your head in a zig zag motion.
  • Now use the left hand on the left side.

Duration: 30 seconds on each side x 2 sets = 2 min
Benefits: Warms up and stimulates the sub-cutaneous muscles.

5. Scalp Friction:

  • Spread all fingers evenly, including thumbs of both hands, to massage the entire scalp with medium pressure.
  • Place your right hand on the right side of the scalp and left hand on the left side of the scalp to begin the fast friction.
  • Bring the fingers and thumbs together and spread them in a quick action. Make sure the entire scalp is covered.

Duration: 2 min
Benefits: Relaxes, improves the flow of blood and helps to release any deep seated tension in the scalp.

Perfect finish

Get the bride to leave the oil on for just 30 minutes and wash.

If you want to go all out, you can even help her ditch the parabens and make the bride her own natural shampoo!

Like the saying goes, happy girls are the prettiest. Try and do this once a week, in the months leading up to the big day, and the bride will thank you for the luscious locks & warm memories!
