The festival of colours is right around the corner. Never mind the occasional attack of water balloons, the real fun is on the day itself- when relatives, friends, strangers alike swarm around to smear you with colour from head to toe.

The colours- though vibrant -come with chemicals that can cause lasting damage to your hair, making it dry and brittle. In some cases, allergies might be flared up, even causing rashes on the scalp.

In order to enjoy a carefree Holi, here are a few steps to keep in mind about your hair.

1. Give It a Thorough Wash

Prep your hair the night before by washing it properly and getting rid of any accumulated dirt and grime on your scalp and hair. With all the unnecessary elements out, the colours stick lesser to your hair the next day. So you can take them off more easily from your hair once the revelry is done!

2. Oil It Up

Before you step out, indulge in a hair massage with oil, preferably coconut oil – we recommend Parachute Advansed for deep conditioning. It not only forms a protective layer over your hair from the outside, but also penetrates deep into your hair cuticle and protects it from within. Plus, you’ll be able to wash the colours off smoothly.

3. Style to Protect

You can style your hair such that the amount of hair that is exposed to the colours is reduced, seriously controlling the scope of damage. If you have longer locks, protect them by putting them away in a bun or a plait. Alternatively, if you feel like leaving them open, you can go for a high pony as well.

4. Be Armed with Head Gear

Another good way to protect your hair is by using a bandana, scarf or hat to not let your hair come in contact with the colors. This will make sure that your hair doesn't lose its luster after your fun day out.

Go on now. You, and your hair, are now well equipped to face the troops. Happy Holi!
