Your Lifecycle and your hair

Track your hair journey through the ages

As we travel through life’s ups and downs, so does our hair. To understand how your age tells on your hair and what you can do for long-lasting gorgeousness, read on.

Reserve your hair’s youth in your teens and 20’s:

1. What you eat, shows on your hair. So junk the junk food, as it will make your brittle, and your scalp oily. Eat clean, healthy and balanced, and stay hydrated.

2. Maintain the inherent hair health that you have in your 20’s. Try and adopt healthy habits early on, so the long-term effort pays off. Get into a routine of oiling your hair, once or twice a week. This will help keep premature greying and hair fall at bay, and also shield your hair from vulnerabilities like the harsh environment.
3. Don’t comb wet hair. Air-dry your hair as much as possible. If you must blow-dry, then do it infrequently and use a heat protectant. Hair accessories that are tight will cause breakage.

Delay your hair’s ageing, in your 30s:

1. Ayurveda practices are especially helpful when it comes to anti-ageing and controlling free radicals. Consuming anti-oxidants will also help postpone the ageing process.

2. Protein hair masks will help strengthen your strands. It will also keep your scalp’s moisture levels in check. To understand how to deal with an oily scalp and dry hair, this hair pack is what you need.

3. Take iron supplements as hair fall is very commonly caused by anemia. Hormonal health (poly-cystic ovaries are common at this age) plays a big role in hair fall, so get regularly checked.

Age gracefully in your 40’s and 50’s:
thin grey frizz dry

1. If you’ve been following a hair care routine regularly, keep up the good work! You’ll reap the benefits right about now. If you haven’t so far, now is a good time to start. Indulge frequently in a relaxing, deep-condition oil massage. It will help keep your hair thick, strong and fight the onset of hair loss, thinning and dryness.

2. If colouring your greys, avoid harsh chemicals at this stage, as your hair is brittle. Use ammonia-free hair colour or adopt methods of traditional colour.

3. Keep hydrated and don’t miss your nutritional supplements to combat frizz and dryness. A hair pack once a month will bring lustre and fight dullness.

So take the time out early on, and get into a mindful hair care routine. It will help retain the hair health you started off with, and delay those tell-tale signs of ageing, so you can enjoy timelessly gorgeous hair over the years.
