Steeped in culture and tradition, we can still turn to Royal pages of history for the strains of our contemporary lifestyles. Modern Indian Royalty had distilled the insights from their conventions to make them relevant.  Listed here are secrets about how they travelled, in style.

1. Go the distance
Along with shopping, packing and making checklists, here’s another thing you need to do before you board that plane. Condition your hair to prepare it for the troubles of weather, humidity and cabin pressure. The royals used flowers like calendula/marigold with a base of coconut oil to keep their hair moisturised while going the distance.

2. Packing Right
A light stole or scarf was a staple during trips for our Indian Princesses- not just a fashion statement, it served as a shield from the dust, light, and air conditioning on flight.
Take a leaf out of the Royal handbook and also carry your hair oils for an unbroken hair regime in your new destination. The royals had customised containers of essential oils like lavender and chamomile oil  that stimulated blood follicles and hydrated the scalp. Mix a few drops with water or a base of coconut oil and spritz on it will keep your hair feeling soft and smelling exotic through your travels.

3. What to Eat
Stay true to your body clock, and  don’t skip any meals. The blood flowing to your scalp needs to remain healthy and nourished, to retain that natural bounce and shine. The Royals ensured this with their entourage of cooks. You can implement this, by adding hair friendly snacks like walnuts and almonds in your carry on bag. Another healthy tip from the Royals? Keep drinking water. Long flights can really dehydrate your body and in turn, your scalp.

4. On Arrival
On arrival, the royal maids were waiting to repair any damage with a secret mix of grated Amla with Bhringraj powder in a base of coconut oil. Highly restorative, Amla is an anti-oxidant which reduces damage and recovers shine. Stimulating hair follices, Bhringraj improves circulation, which is one of the beast ways to promote scalp health.  A powerful potion when the two are mixed with coconut oil, it reduces hair fall and stimulates hair growth.
This was followed by a herbal rinse wash of Tulsi and Indigo. The Tulsi paste prevented breakage and the indigo would wash away any signs of grey or bleaching of the hair, induced by the sun.
