Style me right!

Your go-to guide to finding the perfect styling tools.

Is a fancy label the right way to go? Are expensive products better? Will the most popular one be right for you?

If this is how you feel every time you go shopping for styling tools, you’re not alone. Too many options and much dilemma later, you’re still clueless about what is your perfect match.

The trick to picking the right one is knowing that not all tools can be used by everyone. Different hair types have different needs to attain flawless styling. So all you need is a handy list on the different tools available, and little know-how on the latest hair technologies– both of which you’ll find below! So, strap on tight.

Blow Dryer

• Choose a dryer that is light to carry, as heavy ones really hurt your arm while styling. Not to mention, they take up too much space in your travel bags!
• A blow-dryer with ion technology is always better. It takes half the time to dry your hair, as the negative ions break down the water molecules. Faster drying = less frizz =  maximum styling.
• Life is all about options. So customizable settings of heat and ion input are a must as constant settings that work for others may not work for you. After all, your hair is just as unique as you are!
• Blow-dryer attachments help in directing air flow and heat intensity. If you have curls, gift yourself a diffuser. They are gentle on the hair and keep your curls from getting separated and frizzy.

Flat Iron

• Get an iron with a controllable heat setting, or one that allows a constant heat setting of 185 degrees - the ideal temperature for straightening. If you have fine hair, a lower heat setting always a better idea.
• Choose a flat iron with either ceramic or tourmaline plates. These technologies make sure that the tool heats evenly for maximum straightening at low temperatures. There are some ceramic ones which helps retain hair moisture to avoid the risk of dryness and breakage.
• Size matters. Get smaller plates for short hair. Small plates will allow you to get to the nitty gritty parts and the baby hair better. If you have thick, long hair, get a straightener with plates that are sized 1” or more. Big plates = faster straightening.

Curling Iron

• You need to find a tool that heats evenly, is light-weighted and has an adjustable temperature setting. Don’t hesitate to be too demanding, do what your hair needs!
• Like with a flat iron, stick to low temperatures for fine hair, and high temperatures for thick hair.
• The size of the barrel will define your curls. For tight and springy curls, go for a smaller barrel size, and for loose, romantic curls, choose a large barrel. The smallest barrel you will find will be about 3/8” and the largest about 2”.
• A classic clamp model is ideal if you’re looking to curl all of your hair. To add a few curls for texture, a curling wand (curling iron without a clamp) will do.

A styling tool's job is to make your life a little easier. If you feel like you are constantly struggling with your tools and not getting the right results, it might be time for you to move on! Rather than the price or brand, choose the technology that works best for your hair. Invest in what deserves to be by your side for the long haul!
